Conservative party has … succumbed to Stockholm Syndrome …

Gerald Warner writing in the telegraph today maps the demise of the Conservative Party.

This weekend of schoolboy defiance, fingers in ears (“Look, I’m not listening – nah-nah na nah-nah!”), is being billed by sycophants as Dave’s “Not-for-turning” moment. The historical difference is that Margaret Thatcher was refusing to turn from Toryism; Dave turned from that years ago and is refusing to turn back. Historians will trace the demise of the Conservative Party from the cowardice of the whipped curs who, after several election defeats, succumbed to Stockholm Syndrome, renounced their principles and slavishly aped Tony Blair – now the most contaminated brand this side of Alpha Centauri.

We are watching the gradual liquidation of a once-great political culture, the historic Tory Party. Historians will recognise that what ultimately underlay this disaster for Toryism was a failure of nerve – and of conviction. Cameron, the Heir of Blair and grandson of Edward Heath, is a conviction-free zone. He holds the opinions of the last focus group he consulted. The country knows that and consequently holds him in contempt. Meantime – keep digging, Dave.

Warner is taking a cold hard look at Cameron’s Conservative experiment, and how he got it so wrong.

But it is in the comments that the real impact of this failure is laid out, as one commenter, Phil Kean notes:

We are going to pay a high price

This election sees the birth of the one-party-state.

EU/Labour’s gerrymandering policies will make it impossible for any right of centre party to ever again be elected in the UK.

Where does that lead us? There will certainly be a shock awaiting those whose anger out-weighs any desire to suport this sub-standard Tory party – to stop Labour’s damage and to buy some time – in the hope that proper, principled Conservatives can eventually regain control of the party.

So, that is effectively it. Forget UKIP – they won’t make a dent.
Forget a resurgent, properly led Tory party. They’d have to wait 5 years – after which time the EU will have total control of UK socio-economic policy, we’d have the Euro – and Labour MPs will be mere Principality governors sitting at Westminster.

Ah, I hear you say – but things [economy/order] are likely to collapse around Labour’s ears? Err, no. Well, yes, actually, but it shouldn’t stop them governing.
Europe is currently suffering the effects of a catastrophic recession. Does it stop the reems of wealth-penalising diktats spewing from Brussels? No way.
The reason is because the EU quango is unstoppable – not to be deflected by adverse economic factors or hardship.
The same will apply to Britain. EU/Labour will do what it takes to keep the Socialist EU experiment on course, and their Labour mates in office.

This is the last election that means anything. If the Tories lose this one, they needn’t bother to elect a new leader, they just need to disband.

Which echoes my own viewpoint. That this election was always aimed at becoming a hung parliament, neither Labour wish to win, nor the Conservative party take it away from them.

The formation of a Government of National Unity has been mooted before, using the Civil Contingencies Act as the much larger second dip of recession comes into play to push the last vestiges of EU takeover though unchallenged (not that Dave ever challenged it before), and will herald the end of British life as we have grown up with it.

It is therefore even more important to get the candidates to agree to a vote on the EU, and to get them to make this legally binding pledge BEFORE they are elected.
