UK Govt issues D-Notice on latest Wikileaks material

UK Government has issued a “D-notice” warning to all UK editors asking to be briefed on upcoming #WikiLeaks stories (D-notice is type 1 & 5)

My understanding of D-Notices are that they are not legally enforceable, and only apply to ‘Newspapers’, Tv and Radio. They do not apply to bloggers, although it may be the reason for the change in routing that some bloggers have experienced, i.e. cut off or choke points for blogs they consider may try to break the notice.

D-notice threat:

type 1 is Military Ops, Plans & Capabilities;
type 5 is Security & Intelligence Special Services.

D-Notice (now DA-notice) is request to not print damaging info, undertaken as part of voluntary scheme & not legally enforceable.

The official, minimalist and not-at-all-threatening-really DA-notice site is here: http://www.dnotice.org.uk/index.htm

You can read the standing DA-Notices here http://www.dnotice.org.uk/standing_da_notices.htm

The US State Department has been briefing governments around the world today ahead of the Wikileaks release, and Obama is said to be burning his phone to melting point.

I forsee one hell of an SFI – a Shit, Fan Interface.

    So IN other words it exposes the amount of shitty backroom deals that the USA does with our governments. The stuff that if it were known widely would make certain people’s positions untenable because the people would riot.

    Delightful stuff. I often wonder if the people knew that the British Empire in the 1850s- to the current day is and has been funded by the sale of opium bought from afghanistan sold in Hong kong and the cause of the British Chinese Opium wars.
