EUROPE – Usual cart and horses politics by MP's

A cross-party group of MPs is calling on Gordon Brown to renegotiate
urgently the wording of the new European Union treaty because they say
it risks relegating national parliaments to mere satellites of Brussels.

The demand came as EU foreign ministers, including David Miliband, the
Foreign Secretary, prepared to meet in Brussels today to launch the
formal Intergovernmental Conference (IGC) that over the next few months
will decide the precise treaty language.

Jim Murphy, the Europe
minister, will make a statement on the IGC in the Commons today as
Europe returns to centre stage at Westminster. (source)

We think this is somewhat late, merely a token gesture. MP's could have done something about this problem whilst Blair was still in power, but failed miserably in their duty.

We must now get MP's to censure both the Prime Minister and the Foreign Minister and force them into a position whereby the are not allowed to agree to anything with regard to Europe until it has been fully, and I mean fully debated in the House, culminating in a referendum by the nation at large.

It is now being reported here, here and here that the Portuguese, holding the presidency of the EU, who will host the IGC are trying to ram the result, without further debate. The above links also provide the text of the treaty. (but its only available in French..ho hum).

This must not be allowed to happen, and the Foreign Minister must not allow himself be bulldozed into agreements. Nor must we allow the floods in England to detract from this.

Socrates tells us he has organised the working of this IGC with the aim
of concluding negotiations on 18 and 19 October, in Lisbon. That is the
target, and the “colleagues” do not intend to let anything get in their
way.

Gordon Brown has been lying to Britain. He breaks his promises. He deceives the voters.

NO MORE LIES

We must demand a referendum.

The Empires tentacles will
reach us all unless we stop it.

We
demand honesty from now on, we demand a referendum on the European Treaty Constitution. (we can call it a Constitution now that Brown has confirmed it).

Sign the No.10 Petition
for a referendum now.

Wasn't Socrates required to drink a little Hemlock for the good of the nation?
